The Power Of Dog Therapy For Kids And Teens

My Journey as a dog trainer has proven time and time again that you can never quantify nor underestimate the positive impact dogs have on the mental, physical and spiritual well-being of their humans.

I can personally testify to the impact my first-ever dog “storm”, had on me as a teen. She provided a source of unconditional love as well as a focal point of constructive time spent.

This was a vital influence for me during a period in my adolescence when my environment was filled with gang culture, violence and crime.

I would like to share the following experience from one of my clients as I am a firm believer that nothing hits harder than the sharing of a person’s real-life experience:

The testimony of a teenager

“Being a teen nowadays can be frightening and having additional needs on top can be extremely overwhelming. Constantly having to overthink a situation or encounter that I’d be vulnerable towards.

My fear grew and that fear limited my enjoyment and activity in life, and put my mental health into limbo. Eventually, I was brought a puppy. Investing in a dog is one thing, but investing in a trained, obedient dog is a different scenario altogether.

I tried everything with our new puppy to get him to do even the simplest of tasks of obedience. Our puppy considering the breed he was, was getting bigger and stronger every day and eventually, I struggled to walk him, which resulted in tears.

When Ceaser came into the picture, not only did I see the change within an hour for our puppy, but for me as well. I was included in the process and Ceaser made sure of that.

This gave me and my dog confidence that I didn’t think was possible. The techniques that Ceaser used were incredible. He used breed traits and tendencies against my young pup and quickly adapted his methods to fit my puppy’s own personality and temperament.

Ceaser explained in depth, using terminology that I’d never heard of but due to his passionate attitude and approach he made me want to know.

Within weeks I had a completely different dog, having weekly sessions, that I was highly involved in, which really made an impact, not only on my dog but on me.

I am now able to walk the dog through the park myself without the stress and anxiety that I would’ve faced only a few months ago.

Me and my dog have a close bond that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I finally feel secure about myself and my environment; something I never thought was possible, with or without a dog.

Ceaser isn’t just a trainer, he’s family. He gave my dog a fulfilling lifestyle and me, my best friend.” - By: Anonymous 16-year-old female

Endless benefits of dog therapy

It is evident that Dog therapy is a powerful tool that can have a profound impact on the emotional and mental well-being of kids and teens. The benefits of spending time with these furry friends are endless.

They provide comfort, companionship and a non-judgmental ear that can help to ease anxiety and stress.

Dog therapy can be an invaluable resource for children and teenagers who are struggling with mental health issues. Studies have shown that interacting with dogs can help to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve mood and increase self-esteem.

In fact, simply petting a dog can trigger the release of feel-good hormones like oxytocin, which can help to reduce stress and promote feelings of calm and relaxation.
