From time to time, sadly, it's necessary for our dogs to be protected from themselves. Anyone who is familiar with the notorious 'cone of shame' will recognise that most dogs do not enjoy or feel comfortable wearing a big, plastic buster collar. Those are the classic cone collars often provided by vets when we need our dogs to not do damage to a wound or an area of themselves that has recently undergone surgery.

One of my own dogs has gone through surgery and due to the delicate nature of his surgery location, it was impressed upon me that he absolutely, positively must not do damage to the area of his body that had received stitches.

A cone collar was kindly provided by the vet, but it became very apparent, very quickly that wearing it was making Christopher (7-year old Rottweiler), even more unhappy than he already was as a result of his surgery.

What to do then?

Being in a position where observing Christopher's discomfort as he recovered from surgery was something I could manage well - after all, I've been here before - but seeing how his unhappiness was greatly exacerbated by the restrictive nature of the huge collar he required (due to his big old neck), meant I needed to find an alternative solution.

PET SPPTIES Pet Inflatable Collar, Comfy Pet Collar Cone for Revecovery, Inflatable Basic Dog Collars PS005 (L)

That alternative solution came in the form of the  The Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties.

Within 24 hours, I had taken delivery of the inflatable collar, read the simple instructions, blown it up and comfortably fitted it around Christopher's broad neck.

This review is going to very straight to the point. The Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties is, by a large magnitude, a more comfortable medical protective collar for a dog to wear in comparison to a stiff, plastic buster collar.

Where Christopher was visibly depressed at having to wear the large plastic collar before, he actually managed to make the Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties an accessory in helping him sleep better. Resting his chin and neck on the soft, forgiving collar made it much easier for him to feel comfortable whilst wearing something that was clearly very unusual for him.

Does the Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties Actually Work?

The primary purpose of a restrictive collar is, of course, to prevent the dog from being able to access areas of their body which they could damage. The Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties succeeded in this regard. Christopher was unable to gain access to the area of his tail that had been recently stitched and which he very definitely wanted to take a close look at for himself.

Is The Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties Better Than Traditional Cone Collars?

Yes. Without doubt.

The inflatable collar was more comfortable for Christopher, less restrictive and certainly caused less instances of him bashing in to objects and feeling depressed.

How Much Does The Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties Cost?

I paid £14.99 for an XL sized blue collar.

Is The Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties Easy to Use?

Yes. Incredibly simple. The collar comes with a single, short page of instructions. You blow it up. Use the adjustable straps to size it appropriately and you're done. Very easy to use.

Do We Recommend Inflatable Pet Recovery Collar by Pet Sppties?

As an alternative to the harsh, old-school plastic buster collar, the difference is night and done. Significantly more comfortable and less restrictive for the wearer whilst providing the exact same level of protection. We absolutely recommend it as a product that does precisely what it is supposed to do and at an affordable price.

  1. I beg to differ!! My american bulldog buddy has had knee plates removed due to recurring infection. He cannot eat/drink from his bowl stand and often gets stuck against things with the bucket collar. I bought an xl inflatable ring but he could still get to his knees… but I bought another thinking it would work, however the outer diameter is no bigger so it didn’t work! Until I put two rings on him, one loose around his shoulders/chest and the other around his neck!! That did the trick, he’s happy and comfy now
