Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Review (Real Dog Owner Review)

The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless vacuum cleaner is lightweight but packs a punch. Incredibly easy to set-up with a functional battery life that won't leave you racing around your home trying to get finished before the power dies.

Simple, effective; the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless is an ideal choice for dog owners who prefer convenience but also need the horse power to actually deliver a clean that some other cordless vacuums simply can't match.

When we agreed to write this Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless Vacuum cleaner review our go-to vacuum cleaner was the Shark anti-hair-wrap, which is a powerful, reliable workhorse of a vacuum cleaner that always got the job done.

Unpacking the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless, I had the notion that this would be a really handy additional vacuum cleaner that would be ideal for breezy, quick cleans when the heavier, bulkier Shark model seemed too much of a chore to plug in and lug around when a fast, light clean was all that was needed.

Obviously there's no way the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 could be judged against the heavier, corded powerhouse that is the Shark anti-hair-wrap, right? That would be an unfair comparison. One is lighter, smaller, built for convenience. One is a non-cordless, weighty powerful machine. So it'd be an unfair apples v oranges comparison, right?

Wrong!

The most surprising thing about the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless is that it actually outperformed its less convenient challenger on day one.

Now, let's be absolutely fair here. The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless was being used on day 1 of its working life. Brand, spanking new. The Shark anti-hair-wrap has been reliable workhorse in our home for over two years.

The fact is though, given a choice, if you've got the option of a lightweight cordless vacuum that flies around the house vs a bulky, heavyweight vacuum that needs to be attached to the mains at all times to work - and the lightweight, cordless model can match or beat the corded cleaner - well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out which vacuum will be your new go-to vacuum cleaner.

My expectations going in to the review were that the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless would be a perfect second vacuum. The vacuum cleaner to grab when you just need to do a quick run around. Maybe, even, a vacuum to keep upstairs as a supplementary 'bonus' cleaner.

It is not that.

For the past month I've been using the the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless as our main vacuum cleaner. For the purpose of this review, I wanted to find out if the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless could handle being the only/primary vacuum cleaner in a home that contains two large dogs (who are right in the middle of shedding season), two cats and a messy human (me).

The short of it is this: The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless handled that task with aplomb.

There was one moment where I thought I'd worked it to death. I was unable to collect hairs and felt like the suction may have gone. If that were true, this review would be very, very different.

However, with a quick trip to the Vax website's troubleshooting guide, my problem was solved and the The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless was back up and running, good as new (as it should be).

(For reference; the The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless had developed a clog at the head end of the cleaner. It was really simple to fix as the The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless is a very simple, well constructed tool that even an idiot like me could take apart and put together again in a matter of minutes).

Features of the The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless

The The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless has a simple control panel. It has a battery level indicator, a boost button (for hard to clean spots) and that is enough to get the job done.

The product we tested was the single battery version. You can buy a double battery version (currently on offer with an £80 discount on Amazon) that gives a 90 minute run time.

The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless battery life

I never ran out of battery or even came close. So that's enough battery power to fully clean a home with four shedding pets and 6 rooms from top to bottom.

Does the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 meet the expectations set by the manufacturer's blurb?

Let's examine this claim:

The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet cleans carpets better than the UK's top 3 best-selling cordless vacuums. Giving you the cleaning performance of the best corded uprights* in the freedom of a cordless vacuum.

Yes. Easily. This was the biggest surprise to me. I thought there was no way such a light, cordless whip of a machine could match or out perform its juggernaut competition. But it did. There is clearly a lot of innovation under the hood and vacuum cleaners are getting lighter and easier to use without the usual loss of performance when compared to their corded, heavier cousins.

Would you recommend the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet to dog owners?

Yes. Categorically. It's a strong recommendation.

Is the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet value for money?

The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Dual Battery Cordless vacuum cleaner with motorised pet tool is currently on offer with a hefty £80 discount on Amazon. So, at the time of writing, it'll set you back £249 (or 5 interest free monthly payments of £49).

As K9 Magazine regular readers will know, we test a LOT of vacuum cleaners. The Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 represents excellent value for money. Simple as that.

  1. Excellent review, however, one point I will challenge is its weight. With the motorised head fitted, the unit comes in at 6kg plus. Without the head it’s about 3kgs. I’m not a frail man but using it above head height with just a simple brush is not an easy task.
There is one point worth mentioning in support of its power is that on a laminate floor with full power the machine head virtually ‘sticks’ to the floor! David Caney
