Professor Stanley Coren from the University of British Columbia’s Department of Psychology has measured dog intelligence in three ways –
- Adaptive problem-solving: The problems they can solve, such as finding a way to overcome a barrier and opening a box.
- Instinct: The ability to perform specific tasks like guarding, herding, and retrieving without getting any training.
- Learning: The skills they can learn with instructions and the ability to understand human language.
