The Enabot ROLA Petpal is a smart robot that entertains and interacts with pets. Controlled via a smartphone app, it moves, plays sounds, and dispenses treats, keeping pets engaged and active while owners are away.
With three senior rescues in our home, we are always on the lookout for engagement tools, and I specifically am always looking for distractions! A robotic, remote-controlled robot that can photograph, video, dispense treats, and initiate play was therefore mighty interesting.
We have no affiliation with Enabot outside of an intrigue for any company focused on robots; so we were therefore thrilled when they asked for our opinion on just such a product!
First Impressions
Upon unboxing the Enabot ROLA Petpal, I was immediately struck by the high-quality packaging. It had a premium feel, making the product seem very expensive. The unboxing experience was intuitive, with guides that made starting the robot a breeze.
Setup and Installation
Setting up the Petpal was a straightforward and efficient process, primarily conducted through the companion app. It took me just five minutes to get everything up and running.
Design and Build Quality
The Enabot ROLA Petpal is impressively sturdy and durable. After a month of use, including some playful attacks from Lucy, Ellie, and Birdie, the robot remains fully functional and looks as good as new. This durability is particularly important for households with multiple pets.
Camera Functionality
The camera quality is excellent, providing smooth and clear video feeds. The robot's movement is fluid, and controlling it via the app is both fun and intuitive. Watching your dogs through the camera adds a layer of engagement and enjoyment. The ability to record videos or take photos of your pets throughout the day is a fantastic feature, too. We got a lot of fun out of that!
Treat Dispenser
The treat dispenser is easy to use and was a hit with my dogs. Lucy, Ellie, and Birdie quickly learned to follow the robot around for treats, making it an excellent tool for positive reinforcement. Introducing the dogs to the robot via the treat dispenser helped build positive associations, making future interactions smoother and more enjoyable. Even Birdie, who is usually the shyest, grew to enjoy the robot.
Toy Attachment
The toy attachment effectively engages the dogs when I'm not in the room. However, they tend to ignore it when I'm present. This feature is great for remote play and keeping the dogs entertained when they're alone.
Remote Control and App
The app-based remote control works seamlessly and is packed with cool features. You can see and speak to your dogs, dispense treats, or initiate play from anywhere in the world. The ability to remotely control the robot adds an element of fun for the dog owner as well.
Additional Features
One of my favorite features is the ability to set up a showreel of pet photos or even movies throughout the day. This adds a delightful touch to the overall experience and makes it easier when you’re missing your dog at work! While I haven't explored all the features yet, I'm sure there are many more useful tools within the app.
Overall Experience
Overall, my experience with the Enabot ROLA Petpal has been fantastic. I was initially skeptical about robotic toys, as they can sometimes stress out pets. However, this device allows for a gentle introduction through the treat dispenser, creating a positive experience for the dogs.
The robot is easy to use and provides a lot of fun for both the pets and owners. The accessories switch seamlessly, and the robot auto-docks into a charging station similar to rechargeable robotic vacuums.
I highly recommend the Enabot ROLA Petpal as a valuable tool in your pet enrichment toolbox. It is especially useful on hot days or for senior pets like Lucy, Ellie, and Birdie, who are slowing down and need the same engagement in spite of their shorter walks these days.
The only improvement I would suggest is more variation in engagement toys, both physical and virtual, which I hope Enabot will incorporate into future developments.
