Shaun the Sheep Faces a Hair-Raising New Threat in The Beast of Mossy Bottom

Shaun and the flock are heading into their biggest and hairiest adventure yet as Sky unveils the first trailer and poster for Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, the third feature film from Aardman’s much-loved stop-motion franchise.

Things are about to get hairy at Mossy Bottom.

Sky has unveiled the first trailer for Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, teasing a spooky new adventure that will see Shaun and the flock face a mysterious creature rampaging across the farm.

The new film will premiere theatrically as a Sky Original on 18 September 2026, with Aardman partnering with Sky as the film's exclusive UK theatrical distributor.

The action-packed first look promises plenty of the familiar chaos fans have come to expect from Shaun the Sheep, but with a distinctly spooky twist.

The trailer gives fans their first glimpse of Shaun taking on a rather unexpected role as a mad scientist, while hens are left quaking, Bitzer dives for cover, and the flock prepares a series of increasingly elaborate booby traps.

And if that wasn't enough, there's even a chainsaw-wielding sheep thrown into the mix.

With a mysterious beast on the loose, Shaun and the flock must come together to protect both Halloween and the farm in what looks set to be a fur-raising showdown.

At the centre of the new adventure is Shaun, whose talent for turning even the simplest farmyard situation into complete chaos is once again put to the test.

The film also marks the animation debut of Dani Dyer, who joins the cast in her first animation voice role.

A New Chapter for a Much-Loved Sheep

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom is the third stop-motion animated feature film from Aardman's globally recognised Shaun the Sheep brand.

The character first appeared 30 years ago in Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave, before going on to become one of Aardman's best-known creations.

Since then, Shaun has become a worldwide favourite, with the series broadcast in 170 territories.

The franchise's seventh series is also due to air later this year, continuing a relationship with audiences that has stretched across television specials, series and feature films.

The first Shaun the Sheep Movie was nominated for both a BAFTA and an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of 2015.

The second feature, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, also received BAFTA and Academy Award nominations and was widely praised by critics.

In 2021, Aardman released the half-hour special Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas, which went on to win an International Emmy.

Aardman and Sky Continue Their Long-Running Partnership

The new film also continues Sky's decade-long relationship with Aardman.

That partnership began with Morph, the first Sky Kids Original commission in 2016, and has since expanded to include titles such as Make Your Own Movies with Merlin and Epic Adventures of Morph.

Sky and Aardman are also currently in production on the third season of BAFTA-nominated pre-school series The Very Small Creatures.

The latest Shaun the Sheep film follows the recent success of another major Aardman release, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

The film became the most-watched animated film broadcast on British television since modern viewing records began in 2002 during the Christmas period, according to Aardman.

Vengeance Most Fowl subsequently won two BAFTAs, for Best Animation and Best Children's and Family Film, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.

The awards add to Aardman's long list of accolades, with the studio having now collected 17 BAFTAs and four Academy Awards.

Who's Behind The Beast of Mossy Bottom?

The new Shaun adventure has been written by Mark Burton, whose credits include Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Paddington in Peru and Shaun the Sheep Movie, alongside Giles Pilbrow, who worked on Horrible Histories and Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas.

The film is directed by Steve Cox, director of Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas, and Matthew Walker, known for Lloyd of the Flies.

Richard Beek, whose previous credits include Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, serves as Producer.

Nick Park, Peter Lord, Carla Shelley and Sarah Cox are Studio Executive Producers.

With its combination of stop-motion animation, slapstick humour and a brand-new creature causing havoc at Mossy Bottom, Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom looks set to bring the flock back to the big screen with another adventure designed for the whole family.

And this time, Shaun may have met his match.

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom will be released theatrically across the UK as a Sky Original on 18 September 2026.
