Kim Kardashian Talks to K9 Magazine

Kim Kardashian is an American stylist based in California and is the star of American reality series Keeping up with the Kardashians. She has spent most of her life around dogs and shared her views on canine companionship with K9 Magazine in 2008 just after season two of 'KUWTK' had wrapped.

Tell us about your pets. Names, breeds and ages.

Well we have four family dogs, we have Dolce who’s a boy, he’s 5 years old and a Chihuahua, we have Gabanna who’s a 2 year old black Labrador girl, we have Bella, who’s a 6 month old Maltese and she’s the newest addition. And we have Butter, she’s 10 months old, her real name is Beatrice P Potter Butter Beans Beyonce, but Butter for short! I share Butter with my sister, Khloe, we went together to bring her home but because I travel so much she lives with Khloe.

When did your interest in pets/animals begin and how long have you been a pet owner?

We’ve always had dogs, my dad always loved pure breeds and wanted the best so he always had Dobermans when we were growing up. I think dogs are great to be around and such a valuable part of the family.

Alongside your family, you have a reality TV show, ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’, which is currently showing on E! and into its second season, the show always looks like it really is an accurate portrayal of family life for you, when you first set out with the show, were their any particular myths you hoped the show would dispel?

I think there’s so many different stereotypes out there about me and about Hollywood kids, like we shop all day and party all night, so the show really does show us as we are. Like that we have jobs, we have two clothes stores, Dash and Smooch, which we run, so we have normal jobs.

A lot of the shots people see are of me and my sisters is when we’re out and about and I hope when people see the show, they get a different impression, the real impression of how our lives really are.

We’ve just finished filming the second series literally last night we wrapped it up, it’s a bonus 11th episode! When the show is out we obviously get a lot more visibility, but now the second series is done, we have a little off time and then its back to it, looking after the stores and normal life!

Do you have a motto you live your life by?

I just think do whatever makes you happy, don’t conform to what others think you should be doing and of course family comes first!

Your own website recently relaunched with a blog written by you where you video answers to questions people send into you and you have a section called Gabanna’s Cabanna where Gabanna gives her take on life. What made you decide to go one step further than just a normal blog with the site?

The interaction side of the site was something I’d wanted to do for a while, people might see pictures of me from other places and I wanted to put my own pictures up with what they mean to me, like the real meaning behind was happening when they were taken. I think it’s the best way for me to express myself and I love reading all of the comments and questions people send in and I really do read everything!

I try and give answers to everything people send in. The questions I get are like ones my sisters ask and if I’ve lived through it, I’ll give my advice, I’m not saying that I know everything, but I give my input I hope it might help.

The show highlights the large family you have with 9 siblings, growing up must have been a lot of fun, can you see yourself having a large family of your own one day?

I’d definitely love to have a large family, it’s definitely a lot of fun growing up with lots of brothers and sisters around, you feel a lot of love. I’d love to have a large family of my own and soon.

Let us in on a secret from the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ set.

The bonus episode, episode 11 holds nothing back. It’s all the silly stuff which was cut out of the rest of the shows, we had so much stuff that we wanted to keep in, that we decided to use it all in a bonus episode!

What’s your personal favourite tv show and why?

Oh wow, well I really love Oprah and American Idol, those are probably my two favourite shows.

For this question, we ask our celebs to match up the following people’s personality to a breed of dog, for example, Winston Churchill = Bulldog or J.Lo = Afghan Hound, Frank Bruno = Boxer etc.

(editor’s note :- some of our celebrity subjects ‘wimp out’ on some breed comparisons, we give extra credits for celebs who are brave enough to answer ALL of our questions! If you feel the need to qualify why you think Tony Blair should be compared to a Poodle with a written explanation, that’s fine, we will publish your comments.)

Ryan Seacrest – He’d be a little Terrier, always running around and working hard. He’s be a really busy dog!

Paris Hilton – I think she’d definitely be a Chihuahua just like Tinkerbell, with pink nail polish and a rhinestone collar.

Will Smith – He’s have to be some kind of a dog with big floppy ears, he’s be a really happy, cute dog. Maybe an Irish Setter?

Simon Cowell – He’d definitely have to be a Bulldog!

Which do you prefer and why?

Big dogs or little dogs – I don’t really have a preference to be honest although I did see a baby Pug recently, that had to be the cutest puppy!

Pedigree dogs or cross-breeds – To me it’s more about the personality, like I said earlier, my dad was more about the pure breeds, but to me it’s all about the personality.

Days off or days at work – I don’t really ever have days off, except if I’m on vacation. I really like feeling productive, so I enjoy working.

Lead and collar or dog running free – Running free if it’s the right environment and safe, like I wouldn’t have to worry about the road or anything.

Describe the last time you…

Had to go to the vet – It was a couple of months ago now and was when we went for their boosters. They get groomed all the time. Dolce is my sister Kylie’s dog mainly and they’re the best of friends. She paints his nails, even though he’s a boy. Bella is mainly my sister Kendall’s dog. They love to paint the dogs nails, like for the 4th July, Dolce had his nails painted red white and blue.

Were embarrassed or nervous – The last time I was probably nervous was when the dogs were in the store with us when they were running around and went to the bathroom. They come to work with us lot.

Laughed out loud because of your pet – Actually it was probably when I saw Butter in her diaper, it just looked hysterical.

Trained your pet to do something new – My sister has started teaching Gabanna how to play on the trampoline. Gabanna loves it! We were playing around the other day with a ball on the trampoline and she got fascinated by it and just kept jumping up on it. So we started throwing the ball from the trampoline in the pool for her, my sister was teaching her to go and get it.

In which one way do you believe dogs to be a superior life form to humans?

I’ve never really thought about it like that before really, I don’t really look at dogs as humans. But dogs definitely do have a sense where they comfort you when you need it, they totally pick up on things. I remember Kylie was grounded once and Dolce knew something was wrong and he just lay on her, it was like he was telling her everything would be okay.

Tell us something not many people know about you.

People probably wouldn’t know I’m actually a really good cook. I love cooking macaroni and cheese and southern fried chicken, in fact any southern food.

If you had the choice to arrange a dinner party taking three people (choosing from any era, past or present), who would you choose?

I’d choose Marilyn Monroe, I think she was so amazing and she’d be a diva from the past! I just think she is so iconic and I have a real obsession with her. Then I’d choose Jennifer Lopez, I just love her style and I’m a big fan and she’d be a diva from the present and finally I’d choose Jesus, because who wouldn’t want to ask him loads of questions and find out all of his secrets.

If you could sum it up, what do you think is the best thing about owning a pet?

I think the best thing is that you always have a friend if you have a dog, they depend on you and you can depend on them.

Finish the following sentence: my dog is …a diva!

And finally, this is always a tough question and often requires a fair degree of thinking time but…If your dog(s) had the ability to speak and answer one question and one question only, what would you ask them and what do you think that they would say?

I’d ask them if like being dressed up in costumes and having their nails painted or does it really annoy them and I think they’d say it really annoys them!
